It’s the start of the 2025-26 high school wrestling season for the Greene County Rams. Zach Beekman begins his second stint as the head coach and Mark Sawhill, another former head coach of the Rams, begins a second go-round as an assistant. Greene County wrestles in Van Meter vs. the host Bulldogs and the Ogden Bulldogs starting at 5:30 p.m. Both are West Central Activities Conference members while the Rams belong to the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.
The Rams don’t have many out for the sport, so they won’t be filling all 14 weight classes anytime soon. Leading the way are 2025 State Tournament veterans Degan Miller and the Jacobs twins, Brennan and Jaron. Miller placed fifth last February in Class 2A at 165 lbs. while Brennan (106 lbs.) and Jaron (113 lbs.) also won matches at State, but did not place in the top eight.
After tonight, the Rams go east of Waterloo to Independence for the Dec. 5-6 Cliff Keen Invitational. More than 20 teams from five states are expected to participate.
