With harvest finished up, it’s time to put that equipment away for the next year.

Iowa State University Extension Field Agronomist Mike Witt says that it’s a good idea for farmers to first clean any debris and dust from their implements, tractors, combines and any other machinery. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that from there, they should look to perform some upkeep measures.

“It’s very good to go through, fix the components that need to be fixed, do maintenance and greasing and a lot of those smaller things before you winterize it and put it away. It should be part of that process. You don’t want to wait until springtime to do that.”

Witt mentions that by doing this, the equipment should be ready to go in the spring when it’s needed, instead of needing those repairs before being used.
