Mustangs boys basketball dropped their first game in 2026, by a score of 58-49, thanks to a career performance from Norwalk junior, Audric Pelzer.
In the first quarter, Audric Pelzer was shot out of a cannon. He had 13 points, including three three-pointers. Hudson Heidgerken and Brody Logan both hit threes of their own to keep the Mustangs within striking distance at 23-10.
In the second, DCG closed the gap. Juniors Cooper Hutson and Brody Burke had excellent quarters offensively and defensively. Hutson scored five points, three of which came from beyond the arc, but it was his tenacity in forcing stops on defense that allowed the Mustangs to crawl closer. Burke had himself a three-point quarter but had multiple blocks on the other end of the court. At the half, the Warriors held on to a 32-22 lead.
It was a quiet third quarter for both teams as they both had scoring droughts of two plus minutes. It was the fourth quarter when the scoring kicked back into gear. Chase Perrin had six, and Luke Lorenzen dropped five to lead DCG back to within three points, but that was as close as they got.
Pelzer and the Warriors pulled away as the guard ended his night with a career high 32 points after a ten-point fourth to beat the Mustangs 58-49.
The boys will look to get back on track tonight at Des Moines North. Tip-off is at 6:15 pm. You can catch the action on KDLS and raccoonvalleyradio.com.
