One of the big policy changes that occurred in 2025 for the Guthrie County Board of Supervisors came in regard to the weather.

Supervisor Maggie Armstrong was the Board Chair in 2025, and says that the severe weather policy is one of the big things she’s proud the Board accomplished during the year. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio why the policy was started.

“It’s sometimes hard to put a policy in place for something that may or may not happen. And if it does happen, then it only typically happens once a year. ah But it was probably the beginning of March where we had a pretty bad snowstorm here in Guthrie County. And as board chair, it’s typically the board chair’s responsibility to identify, do we stay open? Do we close? But sometimes the board chair isn’t the expert in that particular situation.”

Armstrong mentions that the policy puts together a committee that works with the Board Chair to come to the decision of when things should be closed, and what individuals would be considered essential and need to still work as intended. She adds that this group includes the Guthrie County Sheriff, Engineer, and Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator.
