The West Central Valley Basketball Teams hosted a conference game versus Pleasantville on Friday, as the girls won 36-27, but the boys fell 52-49.

In the girls contest, both the Wildcats and Trojans scored eight points combined in the first quarter, ending in a 4-4 tie. The offense picked up in the second quarter, seeing West Central Valley notching 14 points on its way to an 18-13 halftime advantage. The third quarter was the difference maker for the Wildcats, outscoring the Trojans 11-2 to take a 29-15 lead, then held on in the fourth quarter to win the game 36-27.

West Central Valley is now 5-9 on the season (4-5 inside the West Central Conference), while Pleasantville drops to 6-6 (4-5 WCC).

During the boys game, the first quarter was tightly contested, as the Wildcats led over the Trojans 13-12. Pleasantville used a big second quarter to charge its way to a 26-21 halftime advantage. West Central Valley won the third quarter 13-9, but still trailed 35-34 going into the final frame. 

In the fourth quarter, the Trojans went up by 10 points with a few minutes remaining, but the Wildcats responded with a 9-0 run to get within one point. The game came down to the last possession, but West Central Valley couldn’t get a shot off down three before time expired, losing 52-49.

The Wildcats fall to 9-5 on the season (4-4 WCC), while the Trojans get to 6-3 overall (7-4 WCC).

Pleasantville will be back at home to host Van Meter on Tuesday, while West Central Valley will make the short trip to Panora on Tuesday, battling Panorama.
