Several Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School students will be attending the Iowa High School Speech Association State Large Group Speech contest on Saturday.
Senior Christian McAdon will be performing in the Group Improvisation category. He talks about some of the aspects his team focuses on when they pick a prompt to perform.
“We’re given two minutes for the prep time and we’re given three options. It’s definitely hard because there’s a lot of things you have to think about. You have to pick the best prompt that flows well but also goes well with the people in your group. Because if you have three people that are really animated and then one person that’s not, that person won’t fit as well as the other three in specific prompts.”
Another entry that received a Division I-Rating at the district contest was Short Film with McAdon, O wen Royer and Nick Subbert.
The group’s entry, “Boxing Boy,” is a play on the Karate Kid movie. This was the first time the group put together a Short Film and Royer details that one of the hardest parts was the editing process.
Subbert adds that the group has been working since districts to get the film ready for Saturday’s state contest.
“I was really happy with it. But there was one thing I wanted to change, so it gives us an extra two weeks to get everything fixed. I feel really good about it and we put our best foot forward.”
ADM will have 15 entries performing during Saturday’s state large group contest at West Des Moines Valley High School. For a full list of entries, check out this story at raccoonvalleyradio.com.
