Greene County plays its final 2014 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference volleyball game tonight. Coach Donna Carhill’s Rams face South Hamilton in Jewell with a berth in the upper division of the conference on the line. The Rams are 12-12 overall and 5-3 in the HOIAC while SH is 4-3 in conference games with one to play after tonight. Nevada leads the HOIAC at 6-0 with Roland-Story at 7-1, North Polk (Alleman) 4-2, and both the Rams and Gilbert at 5-3. CMB (Maxwell), PCM (Monroe), Saydel (Des Moines), and Colfax-Mingo are the only conference teams with losing records in Heart of Iowa action.
After tonight, the Rams are off until the Oct. 18 Johnston Invitational with mostly Class 5A competition. The Rams host Perry on Monday, Oct. 20 in the middle school gym in Jefferson in non-conference action. The Oct. 20 match will end the regular season for the Rams and it will also be the first home match in 34 days for Greene County.
