A local non-profit organization in Jefferson gave a donation on Friday.

The Jefferson Kiwanis Club hosted a Java and Juice program with Jefferson Matters, at the Greene County Medical Center Friday morning. The civic organization holds its weekly meetings at the medical center and President Chad Butterfield talked about all of the ways their group gives back to the community, all with the primary mission of supporting area youth.

Toward the end of the program, the Kiwanis Club made a donation to the Greene County 4-H program for $750. Butterfield shared that Greene County Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Samantha Hardaway, along with County Director Jeff Lamoureux, fits perfectly with their mission of supporting youth.

“Samantha does a phenomenal job leading that 4-H program with all of the kids that are involved and all of the volunteers that she may need. But if you sit and you listen to Samantha talk about the judging, the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities that they’re doing within 4-H, it really is – in this day and age – is something that, as we as a group or a club want to further and better kids in this environment, 4-H is really a great opportunity for us to help that.”

Butterfield added that the funding for their organization to give back comes primarily from three main fundraisers, including the can redemption center, located by Ace Hardware, the pancake breakfast in the fall and the chicken dinner they serve in the spring, which is happening on March 8th from 11am-1pm at the Greene County High School.
