Greene County and Paton-Churdan High School Speech Teams are ready for tomorrow’s individual competition.
The Iowa High School Speech Association District Individual Contest is taking place tomorrow and for Greene County, Co-Speech Coach Kelley Gray says seven students are participating in nine categories with Savannah Lansman and Leah McCormick each performing in two entries as well. She points out that only those two seniors have individual speech experience, but that she is hoping for great performances out of everyone tomorrow.
P-C Speech Coach Amanda Tasler says there are 11 students competing in 14 categories, including two newer pieces with After Dinner Speech and Original Oratory. She is hoping that all of the students can qualify for state again, but they have had limited practice time, between large group speech wrapping up and the basketball season ending.
Both high schools are traveling to Johnston High School tomorrow. According to IHSSA, a student qualifies for state if they receive a Division I-Rating from the judge. The full list of students and what they are competing in can be found below.
