At the end of this year, a non-profit group that includes Greene County will be disbanded.

County Supervisor Dawn Rudolph is on the Mississippi and Missouri Divide-Raccoon River Recreational Development Board and says each of the four member counties will receive additional funds before their group dissolves.

Last year, each county received $9,000 and that had to be split between conservation and/or water and soil departments.  Greene and Carroll counties both have a conservation and soil and water departments whereas Guthrie only has conservation and Sac only has soil and water.

However, Rudolph points out some stipulations with the disbursement of the $2,700 to each county.

“We cannot give that to another government entity, we have to give to 501c3 that is doing rural or conservation work according to our bylaws.  This is just the protocol that we have to follow as far as the dissolution of funds.”

Rudolph states that through those departments, $2,700 will be given to worthwhile projects that fit their criteria.

She comments that the loss of federal funding as well as not finding projects themselves to do were the reasons why they chose to disband the group.

If anyone has a conservation-type project that could use from funding, contact Rudolph at 515-370-5605 or board treasurer Chris Henning at 515-370-2436.

They will meet one final time on November 18th to decide what projects get the extra funding.
