The Perry High School Principal who died protecting students in a tragic shooting will have his memory on permanent display with a national organization.

The National Teachers Hall of Fame Executive Director Maddie Fennell announces that Perry High School Principal Dan Marburger and Fairfield High School Spanish Teacher Nohema Graber were recently voted to be added to the National Memorial to Fallen Educators. Fennell states that the current placement for 189 other fallen educators has filled the black granite books that are on display at Emporia State University in Kansas, and so the two Iowa educators, along with ten others, are awaiting to be added to their rightful place among this solemn tribute.

Fennell points out that their organization is launching a national community campaign to help raise funds, from now until April 3rd, called, “$12 for 12.” She explains that this campaign seeks to collect $25,000 toward the over $50,000 cost for a new black granite monument that honors the sacrifice these educators made. On January 4, 2024, Marburger stepped into harm’s way to protect other students from a shooting situation and he died ten days later from his injuries. Nohema was tragically killed on November 2, 2021 following a dispute between two students about a grade.

Fennell says everyone is encouraged to donate a few different ways. People can give a one-time donation of $12 to honor one educator. The next way is a $12 monthly contribution to each of the 12 educators or a $144 one-time donation to honor all 12 individuals immediately.
