Mustangs boys basketball graduates nine special seniors in 2026 after a run to the substate semifinals.

Derek Brown, Namish Khatri, and Louis Mbaya lead the way. Brown was praised by head coach Joel Rankin for the way he “comes to practice every day to make each person better.” Khatri dressed for varsity for the first time on senior night after trying basketball for the first time this year. Mbaya was a consistent and unassuming player with a team-first attitude, willing to do whatever it takes to win a ballgame.

Charlie Bohnenkamp, Luke Lampe, and Landon Hoppe saw time in the rotation midseason and had roles contributing to the success of DCG on the court. Bohnenkamp’s only year on varsity came this past season. He was deemed the commissioner of energy by his teammates. Lampe spent two years on varsity and was solid as a rock for this group. Hoppe was injured last season, so this year has been special for him. He shot 35% from beyond the arc and was a key contributor when called upon.

Hudson Heidgerken, Brody Logan, and Luke Lorenzen were routinely in the starting lineup for the Mustangs. Hudson was one of the top assist men in the Little Hawkeye after being on varsity for three years. He’ll play for Grand View’s football team come fall. Brody took to his role as the small forward and elevated the team with his basketball IQ. Luke Lorenzen was a crucial piece of DCG’s defense and elevated the Mustangs to a top defensive team in the state. He’ll play for DMACC this upcoming winter.

Congratulations to all the Mustangs seniors and best wishes on your future endeavors.
