The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During reports, the Board agreed with County Attorney Thomas Laehn’s request to advertise for a part-time attorney for his office. He told the Board that since Kate Willms will be leaving at the end of April that he no longer needs a full-time attorney and wanted to push up an assistant from the Sac and Calhoun County Attorney’s Office now that Benjamin Smith is on the ballot to run for Greene County Attorney. He added that he will be saving money in his budget with the move.

County Engineer Wade Weiss gave an update to the Board. He said the apparent low bidder of the five submitted bids for the X Avenue bridge replacement project with Herberger Construction Company of $363,413. He also shared that the apparent low bidder for the County Road E-26 and P-46 repaving projects was Flynn Company of $10,263,843. The Board will formally consider those bids at next week’s meeting.

Then, the Supervisors acted as the Drainage District Board of Trustees and set a public hearing for a DD 101 repair project that included an easement with the Union Pacific Railroad for June 1st. They also approved the low bid of TBB Spraying from Titonka with a cost of $9,655 to treat the ditch brush that includes 18 miles every three years.

Next, the Supervisors came back into regular session and held a public hearing on the current fiscal year budget amendment and then approved the same measure after the hearing with no objections made. They also held a discussion regarding a new 28E agreement for recycling with the city of Jefferson. Some of the highlights included a maximum expenditure of $25,000 on a fiscal year budget that would be renewed every three years. The Board gave informal approval so that the Jefferson City Council could approve it at their meeting Tuesday night.

The Supervisors transitioned back into drainage and held a bid opening for the replacement project in DD 20. Jacob Hagen with AgriVia, said there were nine bidders and every company provided a base bid for the main tile replacement in concrete, and there were two alternates, which was a bid with plastic material for the tile and a lateral branch into the main tile. After reviewing the bids, the apparent low bidder was Healy Excavating from Lake View, Iowa with a base quote of $1,359,084. Hagen added that once he has formally reviewed the bid, he will recommend approval at a future meeting.

The Supervisors then came back into regular session and tabled a decision on the Schoolboy Soldier monument, after a lengthy discussion, and pending the final rendering of the statue. They also tabled indefinitely a decision on the contract with Red Lion Renewables, pending the corrected data for purchasing the solar panels and updated the locations.
