The Dallas County Health Department will celebrate National Public Health Week by hosting CPR and Naloxone trainings at the beginning of April.
Community Health Educator Natalie Del Vecchio says National Public Health Week will be observed from April 6-12. She adds that the health department will kick the week off with a free hands-on CPR and AED training at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7 at the Perry Public Library, 1101 Willis Avenue.
She adds that the session will cover the basics of hands-only CPR and how to use an automatic external defibrillator in the event of a cardiac emergency. Del Vecchio details that participants will get the opportunity to practice compressions to brush up on their CPR skills or get introduced to it. No previous experience is necessary.
While the event is free, she encourages residents to register early as space is limited.
Del Vecchio says the week will wrap up with Opioid Overdose Education and Naloxone Training at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 10 at the Dallas County Administration Building, 800 Court Street, in Adel.
She explains that the session will help attendees understand what opioids are and how they impact physical functioning, misuse consequences, what Narcan is and how to obtain and administer it properly.
Del Vecchio adds that the free event does not require registration.
