Monday night, the US Senate voted to confirm the newest cabinet member of the Trump Administration.

Sources say that the Senate voted 54-45, mostly along party lines, were able to confirm President Donald Trump’s appointment of Senator Markwayne Mullin as the next Department of Homeland Security Secretary. Mullin replaces Kristi Noem, who was fired earlier this month from the post.

US Senator Chuck Grassley tells Raccoon Valley Radio that while it is a loss to the Senate having a colleague like Mullin leave, it will be a boost to the Department of Homeland Security.

“He’s a very good person. The Department of Homeland Security will be much better run and less bad publicity out of immigration enforcement with he’s being at the head of it, as opposed to Secretary Noem. And I think it will even help Trump be considered a better President.”

Grassley laments that he will miss all the times of when Mullin addressed him as “Mr. President” due to Grassley’s role as Senate President Pro Tem.

“I open up the Senate most days and on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, he generally comes in to be the first presiding officer, and he always greets me with that statement of ‘Mr. President.’”

Mullin was sworn-in as the Secretary of Homeland Security on Tuesday morning.
