A Jefferson man was recently sentenced to prison for domestic abuse.

According to court documents, 42-year-old Michael Wagoner pled guilty to a Class D Felony for his third or subsequent offense for domestic abuse assault. He was sentenced to five years in prison, which will be served consecutively with an additional two years and 70 days from two previous probation revocations from convictions. 

The charge stemmed from an incident that took place on October 9, 2025. The Jefferson Police Department responded to a call of the assault, where the victim said a verbal argument turned physical with Wagoner. Police saw visual injuries that were the result of the assault and the victim’s cellphone was broken for trying to call 911. 

As per the plea agreement, the simple misdemeanor charge for obstruction of emergency communications was dismissed.
