Mustangs boys track and field competed at the Waukee Early Bird Invite on Thursday evening against a number of good opponents and had multiple athletes perform well and earn spots on the podium. 

On the track, and in the 100m, junior Ethan Carlson ran an impressive 11.39 to earn 3rd. In the 800m, two Mustangs made up the top three. Jack Meggison and Eli Oberrueter were 1st and 3rd in the event. In the 1600m, Graham Ibeling posted a time of 4:30 for silver. Harper Gessman earned a silver medal himself in the 3200. 

In the relays, the 4×100 team missed 1st place by .02, a photo finish. The 4×800 group placed third with a time 15 seconds behind the leading Pella Dutch. The 4x100m hurdles squad fared better, racing their way to a second-place tie with Waukee. The two were deadlocked at 1:03.60. 

In the field, Breyven Fuller and Landon Hoppe were 6th in shot put and the long jump, Connor Stolpe was 7th in discus, and Christopher Opoku-Sekeyre was 4th in high jump. The boys will be in action next on Monday, hosting a JV/V meet.
