When getting prepared for severe weather, there are several things to keep in mind.

Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeremy Cooper says that the biggest thing to have ready for severe weather is an emergency kit. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio what everyone should include in that kit.

“One key thing that you should have in your kit would be a first aid kit. That way, should anybody get injured, you do have some uh medical supplies there to maybe stop some bleeding or whatever. And then also in your medical first aid kit, you probably should have any medications that you might be taking or even family members medications in there. That way you can have a three to five day supply of medications in that first aid kit.”

Cooper mentions that having medications for a few days can be helpful in the case of a tornado or flood, where there’s a possibility to lose those things. He adds that battery powered flashlights and radios are a few more items to keep in your emergency kit.
