With the possibility of severe weather throughout the week, there are many things to keep in mind when trying to make sure you’re prepared.
Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeremy Cooper says that besides medical supplies, individuals should also include some batteries for flashlights, radios, and anything else that may need them. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio about another piece of equipment people should pack.
“Another thing that I always suggest to throw into your kit would be like a whistle as well. So, that’s just a nice piece to have in case you do happen to get trapped or something. You could blow a whistle to alert people or searchers that might be in the area that you might be trapped inside the basement of your home.”
Cooper mentions that also packing some extra clothes, as well as sturdy shoes is a good idea, in case you need them to be able to walk around after severe weather moves through the area. He adds that having copies of insurance forms and other important documents is another good idea, that way you have them in case something happens to your home.
