Early April rain and cold forced more than one track & field meet Greene County was scheduled to be a part of to be cancelled or postponed. As a result, the Rams found a meet last night in Manson that wasn’t on the original schedule, and the weather was some of the best of the season.

Coach Derek Merk’s girls and Coach Chad Morton’s boys were also given one more chance to attempt to qualify events for next week’s Drake Relays in Des Moines by having a meet last night. Performances had to be submitted by 7 a.m. today for consideration by Drake. The qualifiers list should be released today or tomorrow.

First place events for the boys were from senior Drew Wolterman who won the boys’ 800 meter race in 2:04.67, the boys 4 x 200 meter relay in 1:33.66 with juniors Jaron Jacobs, Lincoln Schwander, Zack Stalder, and senior Aden Bardole. The sprint medley also was a winner with Jacobs, Schwander, Stalder, and Wolterman in 1:36.49, a new school record time. The Rams were third with 80 points. Southeast Valley (Gowrie) won the team title at 160, followed by 88 points from Manson-Northwest Webster.

The girls won the sprint medley relay in 1:54.90 with freshman Macy Bills and seniors Addison Gannon, Becca Anderson, and Kaycee Pittman. The distance medley was a winner in  4:25.59 with Gannon, junior Vanessa Hale, Anderson, and Pittman. The team scored 77 points and was second to the 89 points scored by Alta-Aurelia.
