There are a few economic development projects happening in the city of Jefferson.
City Administrator Scott Peterson says there are two new businesses slated for the former Sanctuary Church building along East Lincoln Way that was purchased by Dan Owens of Owens Plumbing and Heating. Peterson tells Raccoon Valley Radio, Owens is planning to install a spray foam application and custom gutter businesses.
Another new development along that same corridor is a property north of the former A&W restaurant with Chad Sloan and Sloan Plumbing and Heating. Peterson notes that Sloan is planning to build a facility to utilize for his main business along South Cedar Street.
Peterson explains that the Council approved two forgivable loan agreements for those two properties of $75,000 each.
“This is certainly the intent of that economic development program is to take these buildings out there and really inject some new life.”
Peterson states that Owens is investing a total of $256,000 into his project, while Sloan is investing $185,000. The Council approved both agreements at their April 14th meeting.
Peterson says another program the city offers to a business is a 50/50 match facade grant. He details that the owners of the new Greene County Mercantile, located at 107 East Lincoln Way, where the former Printer’s Box was, received a $11,297 grant.
“Another great, new business coming to town, I’m very excited about that and some new additional retail. And of course, the city really wants to be a good partner as far as assuring that the buildings downtown are properly maintained and just another enhancement to our beautiful square area.”
Peterson adds the total project cost was $22,594 and the Council approved the application during a special meeting on March 31st.
