Saturday is Celebrate Trails Day, and there will be an event for bike enthusiasts on a popular recreation trail in Dallas County.
Raccoon River Valley Trail Association Chair Pat Steele says the event is celebrated across the country and is sponsored by Rails to Trails Conservancy as a way to encourage area residents to get out and enjoy the trails. He adds that this is the third year the association has sponsored a bike ride.
The event will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday with self-guided tours of the Forest Park Museum and free health and wellness screenings provided by medical professionals from Dallas County Hospital and Clinics.
Riders will then gather for brief remarks from Bike Iowa representative Scott Sumpter, followed by a group ride departing from Perry. Participants will ride a 12-mile round trip from Perry to Minburn and back along the Raccoon River Valley Trail.
Steele says whether residents are experienced cyclists or are simply looking for a fun spring ride, Saturday’s event is a great way to enjoy the outdoors, learn more about local history and celebrate the trail network in Iowa.
The cost to register is $25 and all registered participants will receive a free commemorative koozie. To register, click here.
