Life Flight was used twice within two hours in Greene County for life-threatening injuries Wednesday.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, the first incident happened at 12:25pm when a deputy, the Scranton Fire Department and Greene County Ambulance responded to the scene of a farming accident near 270th Street and D Avenue.

The Sheriff’s Office states that a 32-year-old female was pinned between a farming cultivator and a pickup that had rolled forward trapping the victim between the two. The report shows the female was taken by Life Flight with life-threatening injuries from the scene to a Des Moines hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office points out the second incident happened at 2:32pm at 305th Street and W Avenue. According to the preliminary crash report, 42-year-old Shawn Marshall of Gowrie was traveling at a high rate of speed on W Avenue and lost control on the curve, which appeared to send the 2003 Ford Mustang straight onto the gravel road.

The crash report further indicates that Marshall’s vehicle slid on the gravel and it struck a nearby farm drive, which sent it airborne for approximately 480 feet before the vehicle tumbled a couple of times and ended up in the eastbound ditch. The Sheriff’s Office says Marshall was ejected from the vehicle about 600 feet before the vehicle caught fire. The report states that airbags in the vehicle deployed and the seatbelt was connected but loose.

Marshall suffered life-threatening injuries and Life Flight was called into the scene and transported him to a Des Moines hospital. The Jefferson and Grand Junction Fire Departments, Grand Junction Rescue, Greene County Ambulance, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene. Marshall was cited for driving too fast for conditions and operating a vehicle in a reckless, erratic and careless manner.

Both incidents remain under investigation at this time. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
