Greene County hosts 8-0 Colfax-Mingo in a varsity girls’ soccer match at 5:30 p.m. today at Linduska Field in Jefferson. The 0-9 Rams went the first eight matches of the season without a goal, but the most recent loss, 5-1 to Grand View Christian (Des Moines) on April 30 in Jefferson, had both the first goal of the season for the Rams and a lead for the first time in 2026.

Sophomore Faith Jaimes-Diaz scored the goal less than four minutes into the match. Senior Leah Mc Cormick talked about that first goal and first lead. “London Harris had a free kick from about halfway down the field on the left side and she kicked it deep to the right corner. Faith happened to run up on that ball, then the opposing goalie came out to that side and Faith sunk it in left for the goal. So that was really exciting for us to have a great start to that game, which didn’t end the way we wanted, but having that momentum early in the game was really fun to experience.”

Wes Anderson is the head coach of the Rams. He’s seen the girls have several opportunities to score goals this season. Anderson, assistant coach Shelby Mincy, the players, and fans, celebrated the first goal, and lead, of the season.
