Coach Heath Telleen’s senior dominated high school girls’ golf team from Greene County finished in fifth place on Wednesday at the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference 18 hole tournament. The event was hosted by West Marshall east of State Center at Lincoln Valley Golf Course. Roland-Story (Story City) handily won the team title at 339 strokes, 30 shots better than the 369 from Nevada. PCM (Monroe) was third at 379, followed by West Marshall (State Center) 380, Greene County 404, South Hamilton (Jewell) 411, Perry 418, Grand View Christian (Des Moines) 433, and Saydel (Des Moines) 470.
The highest placing individual for the Rams was Maya Telleen, twelfth with an 18 hole score of 95. Taylor Johnston was seventeenth at 98. The other two scores counting in the team total were 100 by Alivia Cornell and 111 from Calleigh Fitzpatrick. All four are seniors, as is Lila Osterson, who shot 113.
Meet medalist and runner-up were the Carlson sisters from R-S. Brinley shot 81 and Hadley was next at 82. The Carlson’s have relatives here including the Telleen family.
Coach Telleen told Raccoon Valley Radio the fifth place finish was a couple shots short of the team goal. “Overall, 404 is a decent score for us. We are now 20-10 on the season. We will be a little short-handed in our meet on Friday due to some other obligations, but we will be able to take four golfers to be able to have a countin team score at Jewell. We also learned that we will be traveling to Ida Grove May 15th.” The coach referred to the Rams postseason assignment in Class 2A at Region 1B. OABCIG will be hosting the Rams, Cherokee Washington, East Sac County, Kuemper Catholic (Carroll), MVAOCOU, Ridge View, and South Central Calhoun.
