For 2026, National Nurses Week falls from May 6th to 12th.

Guthrie County Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Mandy Schiefert says that recognition like this is important, because of how important their jobs are, especially when working with individuals who are having the worst day or time of their lives in that moment. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio about a really good way to make sure that the nurses in your life, whether they are family or caregivers, know that they are appreciated.

“Share your story. If a nurse made an impact on your life, whether it’s big or small, make sure that they know that. Because sometimes on the challenging days, you begin to question or wonder why you’re still doing that. And for many of us, knowing a special story or what an impact you have on somebody else’s life really keeps you going and makes you want to show up on those hard days.”

Surgical Services Manager Kassie Cline mentions that the best way to show appreciation though, is just saying thank you. She adds that for many, that simple thank you makes all the difference in reminding nurses that what they do is important.
