
The Nevada and Greene County high school soccer teams played last night in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference action. The boys played at Linduska Field in Jefferson with the Cubs winning by a 4-0 final. The Cubs took the girls’ match in Nevada by a 10-0 scor via the 10 goal rule. Nevada is 10-4 in boys’ soccer while the Rams fell to 7-5. On the girls’ side, Nevada is 6-4-1 and Greene County is 0-13.
The boys’ match decided the HOIAC title. Coach Chad Black’s team needed to defeat the Cubs to get a share of the league crown, but the loss puts the Rams’ final conference record at 3-2 while the Cubs went 5-0 in the Heart of Iowa. Greene County has lost its last three matches and scored a total of one goal during the skid.
Coach Wes Anderson’s Greene County girls’ squad has just one goal this season. The Cubs scored five goals in each half.
The Rams play East Sac County on the road Friday in Wall Lake in a girl/boy win bill to close the regular season.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association released Substate pairings on Tuesday and the Rams will be at home for the first round with Harlan Community at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 18. The winner plays highly ranked Bishop Heelan in Sioux City on May 27 in a semifinal match.
