Today begins the early voting window for the June Primary Election.
According to Greene County Auditor Billie Jo Hoskins, any eligible voter can cast their ballot at the East Lobby of the Greene County Courthouse in Jefferson Monday through Friday from 8am-4:30pm until Election Day on June 2nd. She advises everyone to make sure they have a valid driver’s license when voting in-person and if the license does not have a current address listed, they need to bring another document that has their address on it. She notes that current forms of identification include a used pay stub, bank statement, utility bill, rental/lease agreement that has both their name and address.
As for voting by absentee ballot, Hoskins says the last day to request a ballot to be mailed is May 18th at 5pm and all absentee ballots must be received to her office by 8pm on Election Day to be valid. She points out that people must complete an absentee ballot request form first before a ballot can be mailed. Hoskins states that absentee ballots can be returned in-person to the Auditor’s Office, deposited in the ballot drop box on the east side of the courthouse and through the mail.
There are currently no contested local races for the June Primary Election in Greene County for Supervisor Districts 2 and 3, County Attorney, County Treasurer or County Recorder. There are two contested races for Iowa House District 47 with two Republicans and two Democrats.
She adds that the courthouse will also be open on Saturday, May 30th from 7am-3pm for an additional day of early voting. Anyone with questions can contact the Auditor’s Office at 515-386-5680.
