The Guthrie Center City Council met in regular session Monday night.

The Council heard about the Blank Park Zoo’s “Roar and Explore” Partnership program, which has brought a lion sculpture to Mitchell Park near the concession stand of the aquatic center, with a plaque explaining more about the piece and the artist. They then discussed solicitor permit fees after the topic was raised in the previous meeting, hearing on an email from City Attorney Dave Bruner stating that food truck fees must be the same for all vendors and that the city cannot show bias just because a vendor is not local. No action was taken.

The Council also approved selling a piece of property along the north side of Bluff Street near Valley Township Cemetery, and the vacation of a portion of the alley in the 400 block of North 8th Street. Streets and Wastewater Superintendent Darin Sloss gave a brief report, sharing that his staff had begun the spring mowing season, that the manhole project is completed, and that pool preparations for the upcoming season have started. City Administrator Kris Arrasmith shared some updates on the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, and that aquatic center staff have been hired, with the new pool manager being Collin Stringham.
