Paton-Churdan junior Trevon Keely entered four events on May 14 at a Class 1A State Qualifying Meet in Audubon. He won three times, so he knew he was an automatic State Qualifier in the high jump, the 100 meter dash, and long jump, but wasn’t certain about the long jump, where he was second to teammate Blaise Schilling, also a junior. When the At-Large berth list was released on Friday by the Iowa High School Athletic Association, Keely and the Rockets found out he had indeed made it to State May 21-23 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines in four events, the maximum an athlete can enter. Schilling’s long jump title meant four first place finishes for the Rockets and five total events, both accomplished by the Rockets for the first time in decades at P-C.
