Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team was engaged in multiple rounds of severe weather Sunday night.

According to the National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for western Greene County at 8:34pm. Eventually, the National Weather Service extended that warning until 10:45pm, which was for the entire Greene County area, and also included Guthrie County and northwestern Dallas County. The National Weather Service then extended the warnings for Guthrie and northwestern Dallas Counties until 11:30pm, but those were allowed to expire at 10:50pm. The primary threat of each of those warnings were 60 miles per hour winds.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams reported 40 mph winds and heavy rainfall near the city of Churdan, in northwest Greene County, followed by pea to penny size hail in the city of Jefferson. The other two counties had reported only 35-40 mph winds and rainfall. There were no immediate reports of property damage.

There were four Raccoon Valley Radio staff, Weatherology Meteorologists, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Amateur Radio in Guthrie Center and the Minburn and Dallas Center Fire Departments that were involved in the live coverage.

Anytime a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning is issued for Greene, Dallas and Guthrie Counties, Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team will bring live coverage until the storm moves out of the coverage area or drops below severe levels.
