The Dallas County Emergency Medical Services Department will celebrate National EMS Week by hosting events for kids and adults.

The department invites families to stop by the Perry Station, 512 10th Street, from 3-5 p.m. on Wednesday for ambulance and truck tours, coloring pages and to meet their local EMS crews. No registration is required.

EMS Director Kristin Brady says a free Stop the Bleed workshop will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Dallas County Human Services Campus, 25747 N Avenue, in Adel.

“It’s a great opportunity, if you haven’t had Stop the Bleed training before, to learn how to use a tourniquet and learn how to do some of those life-saving things that will keep someone alive until EMS can get there. If you’ve been to a Stop the Bleed class before, this is a great refresher and everybody is welcome.

While registration is encouraged, she says those interested in attending the training can stop by on Thursday.

Brady talks about the importance of the week and highlighting the individuals who respond to emergency calls and other situations.

“It’s a week where we highlight and celebrate all the first responders and all the things that they do to help keep our communities healthy and safe. It’s a tough job and I really appreciate everyone who does it, from our volunteer first responders across the county in all of our smaller towns as well as the professionals that work for Dallas County EMS.”
