The Perry boys finished the second quarter on a 7-0 run Monday as the Bluejays rallied to beat the Woodward Academy 80-71 in the season opener for both teams. The play was rugged at the start with both teams committing a high number of turnovers and missing quite a few open looks. However, Perry settled into their groove late in the second quarter with a number of transition opportunities following Knight mistakes. Shammond Ivory picked up where he left off last season scoring a game high 29 points. Ivory was one of four Perry players to strike double figures with Will Whiton adding 15, Blake Lansing 12 and Kyle Nevitt 12. The Bluejays led 35-31 at the half and fought back from a brief 3 point deficit late in the third quarter. Whiton scored 7 straight points to give Perry a lead that they would not relinquish.
The Jays are 1-0 and will travel to Carlisle Friday night for the conference opener.
