A popular wrestling event is happening this weekend in Jefferson.

The Steven Silbaugh Memorial Wrestling Tournament will be on Sunday, January 18th at the Greene County Middle School gym.

Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Vicky Lautner says all youth from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to compete.  She states that the tournament was started in memory of Steven Silbaugh who passed away a few years ago.  It was started by Steven’s dad, Larry Silbaugh and has since been taken over by Todd Madsen.  She adds that there were about 75 youth that participated last year in the tournament.

Lautner notes that they are always looking for volunteers to help with the all-day tournament.

“We would take volunteers.  We could use help in the concession stand, we can take help taking tickets or if they know anything about keeping scoring for wrestling or anything like that, we’d be glad to use their services.”

Registrations and weigh-ins will start at 8am for Pre-K through 2nd grade and go throughout the morning.  The cost to participate is $12 before the tournament and $15 at the door.
