The Greene and Guthrie County ISU Extension offices will be hosting a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) to help individuals prepare their taxes.

Greene County Extension Coordinator Lori Mannel says this program will help those who need to fill out their basic Iowa and Federal tax return forms.  Internal Revenue Service trained volunteers will help with tax preparation.  One stipulation to participate in the program is a to family’s adjusted gross income is below $57,000 last year.

She states that this year, they’ve doubled the amount of appointment slots that are available and adds that it’s because they see a need to help more individuals with their taxes.

Appointments will be held at the Extension office in Jefferson every Tuesday in February from 4-8pm and on two Saturdays, February 7th and 21st from 8am-5pm.  Guthrie County Extension office will held theirs every Thursday and on two Saturdays as well.  Each appointment is one hour long.
