The Greene County High School Music Department’s annual winter concert is coming up tomorrow.
The concert will feature the concert band and choir and the jazz choir.
Band Director Becky Greiner says the concert band will perform three songs which includes: The Trombone King by Karl L. King, River of Life by Steven Reineke and the third movement of West Highland Sojourn – On Derwentwater by Robert Sheldon. There are 68 students in the band and they’ve been rehearsing these songs since winter break.
Choir Director David Heupel says the concert choir will perform four selections and the jazz choir will perform three selections. The 95-student concert choir will sing Salmo 150 by Ernani Aguiar, the second movement from Where the Earth Meets the Sky – The Pasture by Z. Randall Stroope, Gypsy Rover arranged by Emily Crocker and Shut De Do arranged by Mark Hayes.
The Jazzatonics will perform last with three selections which includes Smack Dab in the Middle arranged by Darmon Meader and featuring Victoria Sims and Parker Willis as soloists, For All We Know arranged by Peter Eldridge and Meader featuring Kallie Citurs and David Peterson as soloists and Chattanooga Choo Choo arranged by Mark Brymer. There are 13 singers and six rhythm section players in the jazz choir.
The group also earned a I-rating at the Iowa High School Music Association’s Vocal Jazz Festival on Monday. There were 26 groups that performed in Class 3A and 17 were awarded I-ratings.
The winter concert will be at the high school auditorium in Jefferson at 7:30pm on Thursday, February 12th. It is free and open to the public.
