As we’ve reported, a ten cent per gallon gas tax increase was approved by the state legislature recently, and went into effect Sunday, March 1st.
District 10 State Senator Jake Chapman of Adel is one of the lawmakers who voted no on the hot button topic that he says was a primary focus for many.
“This issue is an emotional issue. A lot of people on both sides, those who support it and those who oppose it, have reached out to me. And, without question I think it was probably the hottest topic, as far as being contacted by constituents, that I have seen since my tenure in the Senate.”
And now that that is over and done with, Chapman says lawmakers can go back to tending to other issues that affect Iowans.
“Now that the gas tax is out of the way, I think that really slowed everything down at the beginning. I think things are moving forward, but again the next kind of cloud hanging over the session is this budget and that’s going to take up most of the time, in my opinion, as to how the legislature moves forward.”
We will have more with Senator Chapman on today’s Let’s Talk Dallas County during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours on AM 1310 KDLS.
