The City of Adel is hosting their annual spring cleanup day this weekend.
Billed as the official “I have a basement again” day, the event allows residents to get rid of both unwanted items and hazardous materials.
Waste Management will begin picking up items that are set out on the curb at 7am Saturday. Residents are encouraged to place their junk out early to ensure pickup, and putting unwanted items out the day before will allow “recyclers” to have a chance before items are hauled off to the South Dallas County Landfill.
Items that Waste Management will not accept include liquids of any kind, car batteries, concrete or propane gas cylinders. Only two tires per household will be picked up and construction materials need to be bundled in four foot lengths, weighing no more than 50 pounds and contain no nails.
Appliance disposal will also be offered at a cost of $10 per item. Appliance stickers can be purchased from City Hall and placed on the items. Televisions more than 30 inches will need two stickers.
In addition, the Adel Lions Club is continuing their 18 year tradition of collecting old, unused chemicals and household hazardous materials free of charge. Items such as paint thinner, gas, antifreeze, sharps, lightbulbs, pesticides and adhesives can be dropped off at the Kinnick-Feller Park between 10am and noon Saturday.
If you have questions, call City Hall at 993-4525.
