Adair County Extension is giving the public the opportunity to learn the basics of photography in exchange for one canned food item. The workshop is sponsored by the Washington Stars 4-H and will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Adair County fairgrounds. Attendees are asked to bring their own camera and a printed photograph. The course will be taught by professional photographers. No preregistration is required.

Main Street Guthrie Center is seeking volunteers to help organize and present 50115 Fest. The event will celebrate the city’s ZIP code, by taking place on May 1st, 2015.  Main Street Director Julie Bailey says anyone willing to help is welcome. Additionally, Bailey says Main Street is seeking volunteers for their Beautification Committee. For more information, you can call Main Street Guthrie Center at 332-2674.

Guthrie County Engineer Josh Sebern updated the Board of Supervisors on some major projects happening in the next five years at their meeting Tuesday. Two of the biggest projects involve some of the County’s roads. Major improvements totaling $8 million, will be made to Adair Road, beginning in the upcoming fiscal year. Sebern is currently talking to contractors about some of those improvements including an erosion control plan and possible new box culvert on the south end of the road. Additionally, Bayard Road will receive some fog sealing, which helps to keep the asphalt fresh. The sealing will be done using farm-to-market funds.

The theme for Saturday’s West Central Valley High School prom is ‘A Masquerade to Remember’. District Activities Director Tod Broman says the night begins with the grand march at the high school at 6 p.m. The festivities will then head to the Saints Center, where the dance takes place until 11 p.m. An after prom event will take place into the early hours of Sunday, at the high school.

The Adair County Engineer has received a three-year contract extension. The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to sign the new contract of Nick Kaufman on Wednesday. His salary will be based off a recommendation from the County’s compensation board. Kaufman has been county engineer since April, 2012.
