With recent news that the Emerald Ash Borer has been confirmed in Dallas County, the City of Perry continues to explore options to try and prevent infestation here.
City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says they’ve already taken out some young ash trees in Perry, now it’s on to the next step.
“We’re looking at now what trees are strategic for shade or are going to be expensive to take out, and maybe it’s time to start looking at treating those and seeing if maybe we can get past this. It’s not cheap. It can range from anywhere from $150 to maybe $350 or more, per tree. You need to do that every two years, for a three time period, which is a six year period (total). So Kevin Kanealy from the Parks Department is going to look at that. The Tree Board has also been looking at some of those trees. We’ve brought up a couple scenarios but I think we’ll look at some of the trees in the parks right away and see if we can’t get some of those treated this year.”
We’ll wrap up our conversation with Niebuhr on today’s Let’s Talk Dallas County during the 9am, noon and 5pm hours on AM 1310 KDLS.
