The Guthrie Center City Council expressed disappointment Wednesday night, after getting back the results from Moulder and Associates Police Management Consultants’ evaluation of the City’s Police Department. That evaluation was unable to meet its objectives, citing ‘substantial and unique’ complexities surrounding the situation. The council is still interested in having the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office provide law enforcement to the city and thought of two proposals to make that happen. The first proposal would be to maintain their current one-man police department for weekday coverage and contract the Sheriff’s Office to cover the city on nights and weekends. The second proposal would eliminate the police department and would have two sheriff’s deputies patrolling the city a total of 60 hours per week. Mayor Denny Kunkle says he plans to discuss the financial numbers of the two plans with the Guthrie County Board of Supervisors and Sheriff Marty Arganbright in the coming days.
