More details are released about the 44-unit housing development in the City of Jefferson.
The proposed multi-unit housing will be split up with 32 condominiums and 12 townhomes which City Administrator Mike Palmer says will be built and managed by JCorporation, Incorporated from Huxley.
The townhomes includes a two-story floor plan with a total of 1,380 square feet per unit. Each townhome will have a garage, living and dining rooms, a half bathroom, a kitchen and a ten-foot-by-ten-foot patio on the first floor. The second floor includes a master bedroom, bathroom and closet; an additional full bathroom; two additional bedrooms and a laundry room.
The condominiums also have a two-story floor plan with a total of 10,045 square feet of space. The first floor includes living and dining rooms, a full bathroom, a kitchen and a porch area. The second floor includes a master bedroom, two full bathrooms, an additional bedroom and a walk-in closet.
Economic Development Director Ken Paxton says the 44-unit housing project is just a small piece to a larger housing problem.
“My estimate is that we have about 30 percent of the housing that we’re going to need for the influx of new families for those jobs. Because of the casino, and the hospital, and Hy-Vee, and Caleris and other businesses, we have a lot of opportunities for the trailing spouse to get jobs.”
Palmer notes that the housing project will go before the Planning and Zoning Commission this week with construction to begin next month.
