Colder weather is right around the corner. Do you know how to keep your house warm without paying too much?
Raccoon Valley Radio spoke with JP Hulgan with Hulgan Plumbing & Heating Company about some money saving heating tips that anyone can use this fall and winter.
Aside from making sure your windows, sills, and sliding glass doors are completely shut and shut tightly, JP also makes some indoor suggestions.
“If you have rooms that are being unused, that seem more drafty than others, keep the doors closed.”
Also, if you think that you can save money by turning down your thermostat 6 or 7 degrees at night and letting your house warm up in the morning, you may not be saving as much as you may think.
“If you do much more than 4 degrees, you’re really not saving any money because it has to run so much to catch up.”
JP also suggests that for really drafty windows, people can buy window wrap or plastic from any hardware store to make sure they aren’t letting any more cold air in.
And perhaps the cheapest solution to cutting down on heating costs is also the simplest–wearing a sweater and thick socks.
