There is a full slate of activities happening on Friday at the Greene County Fair in Jefferson.
The day starts with the sheep and goat show at the showring at 8am, followed by the beef pen-of-three judging at 9am. The afternoon lineup includes the Greene County Historical Society building will be open from noon to 6pm, the open class hall and the commercial exhibits hall are both open from 1 to 8pm. A special extravaganza will be for kids ages three to ten and the beef showmanship clinic will be at 4pm.
There’s a full list of events in Clover Hall in the evening. At 5:15pm will be the Clover Kids graduation ceremony, followed by the 4-H Fashion Show and trivia contest. Right before the queen coronation ceremony will be a beef barbecue meal provided by the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association with the Town and Country Band performing in the bus barn. At 6:30pm in Clover Hall will be the queen contest.
Greene County Iowa State University Extension 4-H and Youth Coordinator Sarah Jo Reynolds encourages everyone to enjoy the free festivities in Clover Hall Friday evening.
“We have pretty good attendance for Clover Kids (graduation) and the 4-H Fashion Show, but we’d always like more. You know I think everyone gets really excited for the queen contest, but they forget about those other events that happen just before that.”
Friday ends with the main entertainment on the grandstands with Pat Waters and the Chainlink Band at 7:30pm followed by a fireworks show.
