Friday night’s grandstand entertainment at the Greene County Fair is the Iowa debut for Pat Waters and the Chainlink Band.

Waters is a country musician who grew up in Texas.  After his college football playing days with the University of Kansas, Waters talks about how he got his start in the music industry.

“What I did was I answered an ad and said, ‘You know what, I’m going to try this.’ I went to an opry house in Wiley, Texas.  I got on stage for the first time and man I loved it.  I loved the interaction with the crowd and just having the ability to move somebody with music.  It just kind of stuck in my craw and we’ve been doing it every since.”

Waters is on tour for his new album “Crazy That Way” and he thought that by coming to Iowa, it would help him grow nationally.

“We started basically not promoting Texas radio, but promoting on a national level.  You know, we’re wanting to grow this thing.  I’ve never played in Iowa, this is my first time, I’m excited about it.  And when they (booking agents) brought that to the table, I said, ‘well absolutely, I would love to do that.’”

He’s currently been with his current band for over five years.  Before that, he took a couple years off from playing music to focus on his kids who were in high school at the time.  Waters says being a musician has helped him in his personal life to have an excellent work ethic and be persistent.

He is also a spokesperson for America’s Drug Free Promotions.  His band will do concerts at schools in Texas and surrounding states where they not only play music but educate students on several topics like not abusing alcohol and drugs, teen bullying and teen suicide.

Pat Waters and the Chainlink Band will be perform on the grandstand stage on the fairgrounds in Jefferson tomorrow night at 7:30pm.
