A Long Chase Results in a Wanted Man Arrested and Faces Several Charges in Greene County

33 year-old Anthony Charles Kennedy led authorities on a chase on Sunday, July 26th after a Jefferson Police Officer tried to pull the suspect over for an arrest warrant from Greene and Hamilton counties.

The chase began at the intersection of Westwood and Grimmell Road in Jefferson and ended at 220th Street at Eaton Avenue.  A deputy attempted a Precision Immobilization Technique, which made Kennedy’s pickup spin out and into a ditch.

Kennedy is charged with a Class D Felony of Eluding, along with Operating a Motor Vehicle While Under the Influence – 1st offense, Interference with Official Acts, Reckless Driving, Failure to Obey a Stop Sign and two counts of Excessive Speed for traveling 60 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone and 90 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone.

He remains in jail under a $10,000 cash or surety bonds under the new charges.  He is also being held for probation violation, which doesn’t have a bond.

According to online court documents, Kennedy is scheduled to have his preliminary hearing on August 5th.

Greene County Authorities Arrest a Bagley Man for a Hit and Run Accident on Sunday

A Bagley man faces several charges from a two vehicle hit and run accident Sunday, July 26th.

The Greene County Sheriff’s office and Jefferson Police Department responded to the report of a crash at the intersection of Highway 30 and M Avenue around 2:30pm.

80 year-old Jerry Dean Vincent of Jefferson was heading southbound on M Avenue in a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado.  When Vincent was approaching the Highway 30 stop sign a 2000 Ford Focus, driven by 23 year-old Nicholas Anthony Balderas of Bagley, attempted to turn onto M Avenue from Highway 30 and struck Vincent’s pickup.

Balderas left the scene of the accident and reportedly pulled into the garage in the 900 block North Pinet Street in Jefferson.  According to Jefferson Police, Balderas jumped out of a bedroom window and fled the home when an officer was at the front door.  Officers found Balderas shortly after 5pm at another residence in the same block of Pinet Street.  He was placed under arrest and charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 2ndoffense, Interference with Official Acts, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Driving while License Denied/Suspended/Canceled/Revoked.

No one was injured in the crash, though Vincent’s pickup sustained an estimated $5,500 in damages, along with another $3,500 in damage to the Focus.
Greene County Schools Announce 2015-16 Registration Dates

Registration for the 2015-16 school year for the Greene County Community School District will be later this month.

Superintendent Tim Christensen says all school registration will take place at the Greene County High School from 4 to 7pm on Monday, August 10th and 8am to 3pm on Tuesday, August 11th.

He talks about why school registrations are extended to two days from its usual one-day.

“It takes a lot of resources in order to do the registration.  In the past, we’ve done from eight in the morning until eight at night.  It becomes a lot for the people working.  So, (we) just wanted to break that up a little bit to make it more manageable for the workers.”

The 2015-16 school year for the Greene County Community School District starts on August 24th.
Restaurant and Event Center Now Open at Wild Rose Jefferson

Wild Rose Jefferson is opening its doors to their restaurant and event center this weekend.

Marketing Manager Aaron Harn says the casino portion opened in July and visitors can now experience their Coaches Corner restaurant and lounge and the Greene Room Event Center for the first time this weekend.

Coaches Corner will feature an American-style menu with burgers, pizza, steaks and other entrees and appetizers.  It will be a sports-themed bar and grill with several televisions showing sporting events.  The hours for the restaurant and lounge are Sunday through Thursday from 10am to 10pm and Friday and Saturday from 10am to midnight.

Harn points out that The Greene Room will be open for people to walk around and look at the space.  However, nothing is scheduled to be in it until Kenny Rogers performs during the grand opening on August 7th.  Harn describes how the new Wild Rose facility compares to other casino areas he’s previously worked at.

“It’s a great venue.  I’ve been at a few properties in my tenure in the casino world and this is the most up-to-date as far as technology goes for the event center.  So, we’ll have some state-of-the-art sounds and lighting in there.  It’s a great venue and a great property and I’m very excited.”

The grand opening is scheduled for the following weekend, August 7th through the 9th.
Fire Crews Battle a Large Storage Fire in Boone County

Several fire departments responded to a storage structure fire in Boone County Thursday.

According to Greene County Dispatch, the call came in just before noon at 1846 B Avenue in Boone County.  Grand Junction, Rippey, Jefferson and Perry fire departments, Grand Junction Rescue Unit and the Greene County Sheriff’s office responded to the scene.

Grand Junction Fire Chief Tim Fester tells Raccoon Valley Radio when they arrived on scene, the large storage building was fully engulfed in flames.  Fester says an individual was sharpening mower blades, when he stopped to help bring in groceries, then came back out and saw a fire had started in the building.

No one was hurt in the incident, but at least a combine, two tractors and a planter were lost in the fire.  The entire structure is a total loss.  The building is owned by Sharon Laub.
