Coach Donna Carhill’s Greene County High School volleyball team took advantage of playing at home in the middle school gym in Jefferson for the first time this season. The Rams defeated PCM (Monroe) and Saydel (Des Moines) in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference volleyball on Thursday night.
The first match saw Greene County win 25-15, 25-16, 25-10 vs. PCM. PCM then defeated Saydel three sets to one, before the Rams ended the evening with a sweep of the Eagles by scores of 25-15, 25-15, 25-23. The victories improve the Rams to 2-3 in the conference and 8-11 overall.
For the six sets, Katelyn Hagen was 27 of 27 serving with five aces, and Hannah Promes went 28 of 28 with three ace servces. Promes was also the assists leader with 59. Nadia Fisher had 17 kills and Megan Durbin was right behind with 16. Alison Gallagher, Hagen, Kenna Marquardt, and Hannah Stein led in digs.
Coach Carhill commented, “We finally had the opportunity to play at home. I could tell the team was excited to play on their home court and they did not disappoint their fans. We are really starting to see this team come together and work as a unit. The win tonight was a total team effort in both matches.”
After the weekend off, the Rams play in the Roland-Story tournament on Monday, Sept. 28 in Story City at 4:30 p.m.
