Raccoon Valley Radio recently caught up with ADM activities director Reece Satre to discuss a number of topics regarding the program as he continues his second year on the job.
One theme that’s remained constant is the department encouraging kids to be involved in multiple sports, fine arts and/or clubs.
As nearby schools grow in size, specialization in athletics and other activities at those locations continues to grow. Satre said ADM takes pride in promoting the opposite, and the school’s dedication to a well-rounded high school experience has helped draw students from other districts to enroll at ADM.
“Which means it’s pretty common for a kid to bounce from football practice, and then maybe they’re in drama practice that particular night,” he said. “As far as if you’re a parent and you’re kind of looking for the area where you want your kid to be involved in a couple of different things, whether that’s going to be all athletics or a mix of fine arts and athletics, it’s one of those fortunate situations where we do have that support from administration here.”
Satre added that those that have transferred or will transfer ADM aren’t doing so simply to guarantee themselves playing time in a sport, but rather focused on ADM’s highly-ranked academics first and then looked at the activities department.
You can hear all of our interview with Satre at halftime of Friday’s football game between Harlan and ADM, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Friday on K107 and online at raccoonvalleyradio.com/listen-live.
