Cyclists and trail users in Perry will now be able to better navigate in town thanks to efforts by a local committee and several entities.
A three-sided sign was recently installed south of Highway 141 on the Raccoon River Valley Trail. It includes a variety of information on the history of Perry and the trail, along with a map of the town and QR code that can be scanned to bring a variety of information on local amenities to the cyclists fingertips via their smartphone.
Pedal Perry project committee member Lee Coons says this is something they’ve been working on for a few years and he’s glad to see it come to fruition.
“The trail brings people through town, it’s still our jobs to bring them off the trail off their bikes and into town. It has been huge for us because we want to be able to show the businesses that having the trail is an asset for the town. Hopefully this will help drive more bicyclists into the business area.”
Coons says the goal is to eventually have this signage used across the state so that cyclists all over can recognize the icons and follow them toward helpful amenities in any trail town.
