The Pella Little Dutch defeated Perry 94-54 in the opening round of the Class 3A state basketball tournament in Des Moines. The Dutch never trailed as they opened up the game on a 6-0 run and Perry played catch up the rest of the way. Pella led 27-14 at the end of the first quarter and expanded a 17 point halftime lead quickly in the third quarter outscoring the Bluejays 25-5 and forcing the continuous, mercy rule clock.
Pella took advantage of a soft Perry defense in outscoring the Bluejays 70-20 in the paint and connecting on 59% from the floor. The Dutch also outrebounded Perry 39-26 and forced a season high 27 Bluejay turnovers with their run and jump trap.
Shammond Ivory closed out his career with a team high 18 points, while junior Kyle Nevitt added 16 and Janier Puente 10. Connor Nielsen provided a nice spark off the bench adding 5 points. Perry closes out the season 15-10 while Pella advances to the semifinal Thursday night against Cedar Rapids Xavier.
